What We Do

Grassroots Organizing for Resistance:

  • DALE Louisiana Campaign: Our goal is to educate, mobilize, and organize immigrant workers to defend our rights, recover stolen wages, and address labor abuse issues. FUA has been an active member of the DALE National Campaign led by the National Day Laborer Organization Network since its inception. This campaign demands the immediate use of existing executive authority to protect immigrant workers, stopping deportations and granting work authorization for those who report workplace abuse, those who continued to work during the pandemic and other disasters, and those who lost loved ones to the pandemic. In Louisiana, FUA is leading a campaign that builds community power to fight injustices and use the power of the law to improve employment law protections for all.

  • Driver’s License for All in Louisiana Campaign: Its main objective is to guarantee that all people in the state have access to this important document that allows them to identify themselves, drive without fear, and continue to be an integral part of their communities and their families. We want to send a strong message to the state legislature that ALL of their constituents believe in the need to push for a policy that allows all Louisiana residents to have a dignified and equitable life. Join the effort and help us to make the 64 parishes in the state of Louisiana present driver’s licenses for all! Click on the link ✍🏼http://bit.ly/3HJJO0J  and add your voice!

  • TPS for Latin American Countries Campaign: FUA advocates for the creation of a path to citizenship for immigrants who benefit from Temporary Protected Status (TPS) so that their contributions to this country are fully recognized, and they can gain the right to travel freely and vote. FUA advocates for new TPS designations for immigrants from Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua because their current designations are scheduled to expire in 2025. At the same time, FUA is pushing the Department of Homeland Security to recognize Guatemala as a country that should receive a TPS designation due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country’s nationals from returning or living there safely.

Popular Education to Create Transformation:

  • Health Promotion: Our goal is to increase access to high-quality, affordable healthcare services for immigrant families and infuse language justice into the healthcare system. FUA trains and employs community members as Promotores de Salud (“community health workers”) to reach vulnerable, low-income, and underserved members of the Latino/Hispanic populations with a focus on those who are undocumented. These health workers lead health education and prevention efforts and access to health insurance programs. This program educates the immigrant community about public benefits such as food stamps, Medicaid insurance, public housing, etc. so those who qualify can access them and not lose them.
